Hello, I’m Simon and I volunteer on Tuesday afternoons at the drop-in at No.40 – I’m also Pastor of St Andrew’s, the Church that partners with Cambridge Youth for Christ in providing the space.

When I started a year or so ago, I was really keen to get involved in some of the amazing work Cambridge Youth for Christ was doing and being involved in the weekly drop-in still feels like a great privilege.

I’ve been amazed by how quickly you can build connection with the young people (who are awesome!) and how worthwhile it is in providing a safe, fun, space for them to get to know each other, and ultimately in helping them take steps in discovering God’s love for them.

For most sessions, just being able to open the doors, serve a few rounds of toast and have a couple of nice chats is success. At other times, God has surprised us with conversations that go a bit deeper or where it feels like our presence here at this time has been significant.

So, I’d say to anyone wanting to play a part in what God is doing in young people in our city – come and get involved. At first you’ll think you’ve come to serve and make a difference. In the end, you’ll see that it’s the young people who have blessed you – helping you stay young in your heart, sharper in your faith, and deeply encouraged by seeing God transform lives up close.
