We recently received this quote from a school where we have been running a mentoring programme with a group of students:
“(Our) students have really enjoyed their mentoring sessions in school with YFC mentors. The students have gained in confidence, self-esteem and resilience. It has been great to see students in Year 7 engaging with the mentoring and each other through the activities. Some of the students have joined after school clubs, others have been able to use strategies that they have worked on in mentoring in the classroom setting – answering questions, putting hands up. Others have used strategies to help improve friendships and emotions by talking about issues with each other and holding restoratives”.
Our mentoring programme has been designed to support young people in local schools with a range of needs. By providing a trusted adult, young people are able to share openly, build confidence and develop healthy coping strategies.
There are a variety of reasons that we might mentor a student including: behaviour, self-esteem, mental health struggles, home life, social anxiety, peer relationships, managing emotions and other barriers to their education.
