Petersfield.

Midday Sunday 8th June 2025.

Pentecost.

A van towing a trailer slowly pulls onto the park carefully escorted by stewards. A team jumps out, opens the trailer doors and begins to unload 22 galvanized wire mesh panels which are carefully assembled into a panna football cage.

In a few hours there will be street food, a bouncy castle, worship from Phillipa Hanna and more as local churches gather for Pentecost in the Park.

Throughout the afternoon Cambridge Youth for Christ alongside volunteers from St Andrew’s Street Baptist Church and Kick sought to engage young people through 2 vs 2 short skills-based football matches in the cage. It was great to see a young person from one of our mentoring programmes and a young person from our No.40 Drop In, who happened to be the park. They came over to say ‘Hi’ and joined for a few games of football and a chat. Alongside this we brought over the Wellbeing Check In from our No.40 Drop In space which was a great conversation starter for the afternoon.

It was really encouraging to join with local churches for worship, teaching, great food and lots of fun in the open air in central Cambridge.
