On Tuesdays and Wednesdays after youth drop-in, we’ve been running ‘Discover‘ – giving young people space to talk about life and the Christian faith. We’ve had some really good discussions with young people in these sessions, often using the Youth for Christ ‘Yetti’ game to open up conversations on different topics.
One week we used the Yetti pack to explore how we communicate with friends and family and what good communication looks like, before thinking about whether God speaks today. Every young person present, each at differing points in their faith journey said they believe God speaks today. This led into an encouraging conversation about different ways God may communicate with us today.
Another week, a young person arrived at drop-in at No.40 at 4.50pm hoping to play on the Switch. When we explained that Discover was about to start, they decided to join in and discuss faith with two other young people that they hadn’t met before.
This time we talked about superheroes and debated what we thought would be the best superpower… Pausing time? Teleporting? Flying? The discussion was chaotic as we shared strong opinions about superpowers and their potential use for good or evil.
We asked the young people if they thought Jesus qualified as a superhero – they all said no, but wait for their reasoning… They explained that superheroes tend to have one superpower – or limited power – and they can use it for personal gain, good or bad. They all said they believe Jesus exists and they see him as someone with unlimited power, used for the good of everyone.
Giving young people opportunities to learn about and explore the Christian faith is one of the steps of our ‘Wellbeing Pathway’, which seeks to outline how we might invest in young people’s physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing in a range of contexts and settings. Find out more…
